Toa Payoh Adventure Club

About the Adventure Club

The Toa Payoh Adventure Club was formed in 1978 by 14 adventure enthusiasts, spearheaded by Zhang Fuping. It started off with simple activities such as hiking in Malaysia and the Basic Adventure Course (B.A.C.). In 1986, the Basic Adventure Course (B.A.C.) was changed to the Basic Outdoor Adventure Training (B.O.A.T.) program and held bi-annually. Since then, more than 300 participants have successfully graduated from the adventure training programs.

From 1992, climbing courses such as rock climbing and abseiling was introduced as part of the programs and activities. Contacts were later established with various adventure groups in the Asia-Pacific region through the help of the People's Association some 2 years later. This enabled even more exciting activities of interest to be added to our repertoire.

Besides our continual pursuit in basic hiking adventure, various leadership programs have also groomed countless overseas expedition and abseiling instructors.

Today, the adventure club has under its wing more than plain hiking and camping activities. Members can look forward to activities on alpine & ice, caving, canyoning and sea based activities beyond the boundaries of West Malaysia.

For the continual efforts, the Adventure Club won the PAYM Excellence 2000 Award in Adventure Training in 1996. The BOAT program has also been recognized for its achievements in the PAYM Special Awards in 2004.

All in all, we strongly believe in self improvement by self discovery through experience.
